A mother and a daughter and a friend from far away enjoyed this very moment; it was the start of their last day. I can hear their distant laughter, three women full of life Watch each of them in comfort, unknowingly unsafe. As nature unfolds its darkness, a nightmare becomes so real Raging violence, unheard screams - I can't imagine how they feel. Numbed by silent sadness, I now look at the sky. My knotted thoughts untying, my eyes begin to cry. For a moment I am forgetting the horror they had to face. Their scream is slowly fading; what a moment that is. No forgiveness will salvage this beautiful place as the laughter of three women forever we miss. Is this a dagger or a crucifix I see? Is this for real or just a dream? Would another family of three have lost their lives instead of them? My hands are slowly slipping into the soil of this sacred land How can something so evil happen - I do not understand. | In Loving Memory of Virginia Ann Hudgins (1961 - 1980) You were such a beautiful little girl. Who grew into a lovely young woman. You always had a smile for everyone. And I will always love you dearly. God took you from us too soon. On a warm summer evening in 1980 Virginia Ann (Ginny-Ann) was being stalked by a man. He followed her down the winding wooded road to her house in the country. When she pulled into her driveway and got out of her car he was right behind her. No one was home to see what was to happen next. He took her by gun point into his van and drove her to a lonely deserted spot not more than 3-4 miles from her house where he tried to rape her. She fought him with all her might, and somehow managed to get away from him. She ran into the thick brush amoung the trees and tried to hide from the animal chasing her. She didn't move. He hunted until he found her crouched behind a tree. She looked up at him pleading with those big blue eyes, begging him not to hurt her. With one swift shot to the head she was gone. My beautiful niece, my brother's pride and joy gone, just like that. Somehow the world has never been the same without Ginny-Ann. In 1981 that animal was apprehended, and is serving a life sentence. |

 IN MEMORY OF ALL THE VICTIMS OF THE ABERFAN DISASTER Despite numerous warnings from the public the Coal Board kept dumping coal waste from a nearby mine on top of a mountain that overlook a South Wales Junior School. The Public said a disaster was looming. The C.B. said it was safe. On October 21st 1966 150 children went to school. It was the last day before school holidays and they were very excited. at 09am They got up in assembly and sang All Things Bright and Beutiful. At 09.06am 144 were dead. The coal waste had become to heavy for the mountain and piled down and either suffocted or crushed the school childred and some of their teachers. It was 4 days before the last body was recovered. A shy and fragile leaf know greens, In a brief and plastic room On tender stem it offers forth To cast its earthen womb Fed by a valley's tears That watched it leaf and grow To tell of ones that sleep the night In Aberfan below One day those sleepy flowers Will leave that sunsealed land And wink away the day That no one understands To tell us why that summer fades in a single afternoon And why the day in Aberfan did Autumn come so soon. |
