Escape revives a town's bad memories --(Post-Gazette ) The Johnstons themselves began murdering the young thugs who had stolen for them but who might also be tempted to become snitches. In all, five teen-agers were slain by the gang in 1977 and 1978 . One was Bruce Johnston's stepson. Another was the 15-year-old girlfriend of his biological son, Bruce Jr. Bruce Sr. also ordered the execution of Little Bruce, as his son was called. He took nine bullets, but survived as a prosecution witness.

Johnston may be up to his old tricks–(The Philadelphia Inquirer) The Johnston gang - a multimillion-dollar burglary ring led by brothers Bruce, David and Norman in the 1970s - plied their trade with a criminal genius that belied their backwoods demeanor. "They would get caught shoplifting and people would think, 'These are buffoons, they're low-level criminals,' " said former FBI agent Dave Richter, who helped make the arrest of Norman Johnston at a Maryland motel in 1979. "But these were the same people who were committing burglaries in the millions of dollars."
Crime experts say escapee Norman Johnston came home for a reason; won't give up quietly. –(Lancaster News) There was the scuffle with park rangers in Nottingham County Park. One ranger held a 9mm handgun on Norman Johnston, who didn't flinch. The four-time convicted killer got away.
