Einhorn, 60, fled the country in 1981, shortly before his trial in a Pennsylvania court. The former prominent anti-war activist was tried in absentia and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Maddux. The Tyler, Texas, woman's corpse was found stuffed in a trunk in a closet at Einhorn's Philadelphia home. The saga of Ira Einhorn -- (Philly.com) He was Philadelphia's self-styled guru of '60s counterculture. He fled from charges that he killed his girlfriend, Helen "Holly" Maddux, in 1977. Sixteen years later, he was convicted of murder, in absentia. The story seemingly came to an end in June 1997 with Einhorn's arrest in France.
