    An ex-convict who stabbed his mother to death and repeatedly slashed four other people, including three family members, was found dead in his truck Sunday. He apparently killed himself, police said. Robert Leon Cassel III, 28, was found 13 miles from the murder scene with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Among the four people he killed that night in Rosemead was a 14-year-old boy whom he hunted down on the sidewalk and shot in the head in front of the boy's pleading mother. The suspect then fled to Mexico, where he has remained free.
