    Kelly Ellard's lawyer will be raising questions about allegations she was a key player in the beating death of 14-year-old Reena Virk more than two years ago. Ms. Ellard, 17, faces a charge of second-degree murder in B.C. Supreme Court today.

    Swiss police are investigating fresh evidence that a Turkish national accused of killing his Canadian wife in Switzerland enlisted a network of handlers to smuggle him back to his homeland. The Swiss-Canadian woman was killed days before a scheduled court date to finalize a divorce. A child's blanket had been spread across her dead body and the apartment door had been locked.

    An 18-year-old prisoner who was mistakenly let out of jail last weekend has been charged with being unlawfully at large. RCMP laid the charge against Sean Avery Upshaw and issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest. His early release was a result of somebody at the jail mistakenly changing his February, 2001, release date to February, 2000.

    Parents of the victims of the Columbine High School massacre and state review panel officials are urging sheriff's investigators to release their final report before the first anniversary of the rampage.     A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for burglarizing the homes of newly widowed people while they were attending the funerals of their spouses.

    A Lehigh Senior High School health teacher is accused of fondling a 16-year-old student and sending her sexually explicit e-mail messages, according to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report. Alan R. Bradford, 45, was arrested Saturday on a felony charge of child abuse, a report said.

    A man driving a stolen car was shot and killed by a Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputy on Interstate 10 in Metairie Saturday after he tried to run over one of the deputies, police said. The man, who had not been identified Saturday night, was shot twice in his side after he put the car in reverse and smashed into the deputy's cruiser.
